I’ve been talking a lot lately about my tiny joys, I guess because we’re half way through winter and a focus on the little things is what continues to pull me through.
In the spring and summer everything seems somewhat easier, it’s brighter, warmer, light nights and early mornings having coffee outside. Birds chirping and lush greenery, theres so much around us to be grateful for and life just seems lighter in a way.
With winters harshness I’ve found it’s best to focus on small things that make everyday easier, better or just more enjoyable.
I love this poem by Wendy Cope and it got me thinking about how easy it is to find joy and contentment in our lives. I suppose if you are looking for it, you will find it.
Anyway, these are some free or inexpensive things that simply elevate my everyday experience.
Paper napkins. Especially with a seasonal focus, like the red & pink theme going on above for Valentines, and then i’ll have some floral spring ones after that. Super inexpensive but makes me smile every time I sit down to eat and get to use them.
I also love to have a bowl of seasonal treats on the table. Whether it be chocolate hearts or pink candy kittens, last year I also got the sweetest jelly carrots from Fortnum’s for an easter theme.
Seasonal flowers are one of my winter survival tips. £1 daffodils & £3 tulips from the supermarket really just brighten up my day and home of course.
Fresh sheets, washed with a new detergent, a lavender spray on your pillow at night or seasonal linen switches are all little favourites of mine. I just recently switched out the front pillows to a spring floral cover and they bring me so much joy.
I know I say it all the time but trust me, use your good things. Eat breakfast out of your nicest bowls and have your mid day tea or coffee in a teacup and saucer. Maybe it seems silly but will elevate your day more than you realise.
Nice hand and dish soap. I got these a few years ago as Christmas gifts but I love to buy the refill for the hand soap and for the dish soap I just usually fill it with the Marks & Spencers one. If i’m in the US however I always buy Mrs Meyers or Williams Sonoma White Gardenia (maybe a seasonal scent too) to bring home and use. Washing the dishes or my hands with a beautifully scented soap is just a little joy that I love.
Oh and not to forget a wooden scrubbing brush because it just looks that much more chic sitting on your sink.
Whether it’s fancy or a supermarket one, lighting a candle when working at my desk, at night in the living room or whilst cleaning the kitchen after dinner, will always bring me joy. I’m currently trying to find the best non toxic candles so if you have any recommendations please do let me know.
Picking up a new magazine to flick through and get inspiration is a bit of a weekend ritual for me. I love to collect magazines and they look great stacked on your coffee table, desk or on shelves after you finish reading.
Keep finding magic in the mundane. Having breakfast in bed, organising your wardrobe perfectly, trying out a new cleaning product, doing chores to your favourite playlist and appreciate the joy of each day getting lighter by a few minutes.
Happy Friday!

Love this. Yes! I’m all for enjoying the little things.
Love all of these ideas 🩷 My husband and I have a fragrance company called Ranger Station, and it’s all clean safe and sustainable!
